The Importance of Knowing Your Skin Type

Hey Beauty Dolls,

Before you can get a full face luxury slay, it’s important to take care of your skin first. Also, when buying makeup, its important to know your skin type to see what products best work for you. It’s pretty easy figuring out your skin type. You’re either normal, dry, combination, or oily. Each skin type has different needs. I’ll break it down for you briefly.

  1. Dry Skin

Dry skin is just that, dry. You may experience dry patches on your skin during the majority of the year and need to moisturize on a daily basis. Matte foundations and primers are a no go for you because it will do nothing but further dry you out. Dewy primers, finishing sprays, and foundations work well with your skin type and won’t make you appear oily. Always remember to moisturize before applying your foundation and you can get away with using a dewy foundation and oil control setting spray to give a nice, natural look.

2.  Combination Skin

You’re both dry and oily. You may have some particularly oily patches around your cheeks and mouth but an oily t-zone, or vice versa. It’s important to care for these different skin types respectively. Use a light oil-free moisturizer before your makeup and only apply oil-control primers  where you’re oily. There are primers and foundations made specifically for combination skin and those will work fine as well. Depending on the look you’re going for, you can apply either a dewy or matte setting spray as long as your base caters to your skin type. Satin finishes work well with you as they give a natural glowy finish.

3. Normal Skin

Normal skin types have it the easiest. You can get away with using either dewy or matte products and a light moisturizer. Have fun but remember to use products for your skin type as products with oil can clog your pores and cause breakouts.

4. Oily Skin

I have the absolute oiliest skin and its especially bad in my t-zone. Drinks lots of water! If you’re producing a lot of oils its likely because you’re dehydrated and not moisturizing well enough. Yes, even oily skin needs to be moisturized. Your face is producing oils at an alarming rate to compensate for the amount of moisture it’s receiving. Mattifying primers, lotions, foundations, and sprays are going to be your best friend. I’ll also post some of my favorite skin care and makeup products for oily skin in another post. Powders and oil-free products will help to combat excessive oil production during the day. Also, use blotting sheets as needed to remove oil without removing your makeup.

Well Beauty Dolls, that’s just a quick summary of the different skin types and some things to keep in mind when dealing with makeup application. Comment your skin type below and some skin care products you like to use. Until next time!

XOXO,

MalibeauxAri
