Weave Been Wondering: Beauty Supply Store Edition

Hey Beauty Dolls,

To start of this series of “Weave Been Wondering”, I think its appropriate to start off by debugging a couple of common beauty supply store myths.

1. Beauty supply hair is cheap and lacks quality.

Rebuttal: Not all beauty supply store weave is cheap and just because it’s cheap, doesn’t mean it lacks quality and vice versa. I have experienced some good, cheap, beauty supply store weave and some not so good expensive beauty supply store hair. With any hair purchase its important to do some research whether its by word of mouth or the internet. Some brands offer different types of hair for different styles. Which leads me to this…

2. All beauty supply hair is the same.

Rebuttal: This is not true. You can purchase synthetic hair, human hair, and human hair mix from the beauty supply. Synthetic hair is made of fibers that are made to resemble hair. This is not actual hair and therefore runs very cheap. It also burns easily. This can come in the form of braiding hair, crocheting hair, and actual wefts. Human hair is actual hair follicles that are heat retardant and lasts longer than synthetic weaves. This also comes as braiding hair, crochet hair, and wefts. This can also include that so called “Brazilian” hair they sell in stores now (I’ve had clients bring me some of this “Brazilian” and depending on the brand its pretty decent but not actual virgin hair). These types are also more costly. Human hair mix is a combination of both and from my experience do pretty fine for short term styles with good care.

With all that being said, determine what style you want to get and for about how long you plan to keep it in. All hair is an investment so DO YOUR RESEARCH! We not out here earning coins to waste them Beauty Dolls. You can expect to spend anywhere from $1 a pack for synthetic hair up to $100+ for a pack of well known human hair. Another thing to keep in mind is that while sometimes 3 bundles of virgin hair is enough, you can sometimes get away with two packs of beauty supply hair depending on the style. The hair strands tend to be thicker on beauty supply hair. Some human hair says you can dye and perm it, I don’t suggest this until you’ve done a strand test so as to not ruin your weave. Some hair may lift, slowly but surely, while others may melt or tangle. Don’t expect a bright blonde trying to bleach beauty supply store hair of any type. Buying hair from the beauty supply store can be convenient when you need a quick style but can’t afford virgin or raw hair or can’t wait for the shipping times. I don’t want to steer you away dolls just wanted to fill you in on what weave been wondering. Drop some hair brands you guys recommend so I can make a list for you all to refer to!

XOXO,
